Companion Planting
Companion planting is the planting of different crops in proximity to each other, resulting in a beneficial outcome. Such as; healthier plants, better pollination and pest control.
Plants which benefit each other:
- parsley - next to tomatoes, asparagus
- onion/garlic - next to beets, strawberries, tomato, lettuce
- leek - next to onions, carrots
- cucumber - next to radishes, peas, sunflowers, corn, beans
- lettuce - next to strawberries, carrots, radishes
- carrots - next to peas, chives, onions, leek, rosemary, sage, tomatoes
- beets - next to kohlrabi, onions
- corn - next to pumpkin, potatoes, peas, pole or bush beans, squash, cucumbers
- bush bean - next to strawberries, sunflowers, potatoes, cucumbers, petunias
- cabbage/kale/broccoli/cauliflower/kohlrabi - next to thyme, dill, sage, rosemary, beets, onion, potatoes
- turnip - next to peas
- spinach - next to strawberries
- pumpkin - next to corn
- potato - next to beans, corn, cabbage, marigolds, eggplant
- tomato - next to basil, chives, parsley, borage, bee balm, carrots, onion, marigolds
Plant which do not benefit each other:
- beans - plant apart from onions
- peas - plant apart from onions, garlic, potatoes
- cabbage - plant apart from strawberries, tomatoes
- carrots - plant apart from dill
- pumpkin - plant apart from potatoes
- tomato - plant apart from potatoes, cucumber, cabbage, kohlrabi
- potato - plant apart from pumpkin, squash, cucumber, sunflowers, tomato, raspberry
